AMA Supermoto Championship Heads To Pacific Northwest

WHR Motorsports is set to host its first AMA Supermoto Championship event this Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds and Expo Center in Redmond, Ore. Entitled the Yamaha Rampage in Redmond, this year’s race marks the first time the AMA Supermoto Championship has visited the Pacific Northwest and the state of Oregon.

2007 AMA Supermoto Schedule Changes

AMA Racing announced today that the AMA Supermoto Championship round scheduled for Sept. 9, at the Oklahoma Motorsports Complex in Oklahoma City, Okla., has been removed from the schedule and the Sept. 15, round at the Pacific Grand Prix in Seattle, Wash., will move to a new venue in Redmond, Ore., on Sept. 29. In making the announcement, AMA Racing Vice President, Doug Neubauer noted that there will still be six rounds remaining on the schedule and combined with the four that have already run, the final event will become a double header keeping it a solid ten round championship. Neubauer added that important news regarding the Troy Lee Designs-produced championship finale scheduled for Nov. 10 & 11, will be released in the next few days.

Honda Summit of Speed Holds Supermoto Challenge

AMA Supermoto slides into Miller Motorsports Park, a state-of-the-art, multi-configurational road racing circuit located in Tooele, Utah this weekend, June 23, for The Plaza Cycle AMA Supermoto Challenge, round three of the 10-round AMA Supermoto Championship. The event is part of the Honda Summit of Speed weekend and joins the AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited for three days of non-stop motorcycle racing action.

Ward Still The Favorite In AMA Supermoto

Jeff Ward continues to defy the odds. Common knowledge would say that a racer of 45 would not be on the top of his game still winning championships against riders half his age. Yet as the 2007 AMA Supermoto Championship season approaches, Ward, the defending and two-time champ with Team Troy Lee Design Honda Red Bull, is still considered the rider to beat despite the fact that he will turn 46 in June. Ward heads the list of top riders expected to make a run for this year’s premier class, the AMA Red Bull Supermoto. The series kicks off on May 19 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in St. Louis and concludes on Nov. 11, with the Duel at the Docks in Long Beach.

Ben Carlson 70/30 Racing Supermoto Unlimited Champion

Team Red Bull KTM HMC’s Ben Carlson was crowned 70/30 Racing AMA Supermoto Unlimited champion for 2006 following a hard-fought title fight that concluded Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif. Carlson raced his Red Bull KTM HMC to a runner up finish in Long Beach to clinch the title. It marked the first championship for the 21-year-old from West Bend, Wisc.

Cassidy Anderson 2006 Hot Wheels Supermoto Lites Champion

Cassidy Anderson earned his first AMA national title by winning the 2006 AMA Hot Wheels Supermoto Lites Championship Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif. Anderson rode his Troy Lee Designs Honda to a safe fifth-place finish in the ‘Duel at the Docks’ season finale. That was more than enough to clinch the 2006 Lites crown.

Jeff Ward 2006 Supermoto Champion

Jeff Ward clinched the 2006 AMA Supermoto Championship presented by Parts Unlimited with a second-place finish in the first leg of the Long Beach Supermoto finale dubbed the “Duel on the Docks” on Nov. 5, at the Queen Mary. Ward closed the season in style by winning the final race of the year aboard his Troy Lee Designs Honda CRF450R. It was a series leading ninth victory for Ward in ‘06.

Injured Cornerworker Released From Hospital

Dan Willenborg, the cornerworker who was injured Sunday afternoon at the AMA Supermoto Championship finale, was released from the hospital Tuesday morning. A first-turn crash involving competitors Troy Herfoss and Alex Thiebault in the AMA Supermoto Unlimited race at the Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif., caused Herfoss’ bike to collide with Willenborg who was working as a flagger.

Ward Leading Supermoto Coming Into Music City Motorplex

Jeff Ward comes to the X’treme Cycle Jam 2006 presented by Sloan’s Motorcycle/ATV Supercenter AMA Supermoto Championship round at Nashville’s Music City Motorplex on Saturday, Oct. 14, seeking yet another win at the track where he’s won twice before. The Troy Lee Designs Honda rider leads the AMA Supermoto Championship presented by Parts Unlimited coming into the Nashville round. Ward is trying to win back the AMA Supermoto title he last held in 2004.

Supermoto Championship Still Going Strong

Road America Hosts Combined AMA Supermoto/Champ Car Weekend

Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wis., is set to host a weekend of racing that is sure to satisfy a wide variety of motorsports fans. In a first, the AMA Supermoto Championship presented by Parts Unlimited will run in conjunction with the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford on Sept. 22-24. The Aprilia Supermoto Shootout will run under the lights on Saturday night at Road America’s Briggs & Stratton Motorplex.

Flat Track And AMA Supermoto Rules Committee Meetings Held

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) held the first meetings of the AMA Flat Track Rules Committee and AMA Supermoto Rules Committee at its corporate headquarters in Pickerington, Ohio on Wednesday, Sept. 13, and Thursday, Sept. 14, respectively. Participants in the AMA Flat Track Rules Committee meeting included team owner Ed Adkins, Pat Alexander of American Suzuki Motor Corp., rider Shawn Baer, rider/team owner Chris Carr, tuner Greg Crow, Kevin Crowther of AMA Pro Racing, technical consultant George Halyak, Michael Lloyd representing Aprilia, tuner Dale Lineweaver, Anne Paluso of Harley-Davidson Motor Co., Kurt Nicoll of KTM North America, and former rider/promoter Gene Romero. Keith McCarty of Yamaha Motor Corp., was not in attendance.

Baffeleuf And Husqvarna Extend Unlimited Class Lead In Colorado

Team GP Husqvarna rider, David Baffeleuf, extended his Supermoto Unlimited Class points lead at the 6th and 7th rounds of the AMA Championship in Denver, Colorado at the Invesco Field Stadium. Baffeleuf took his SMR 510 to a 2nd place finish on day 1, and on day 2, David put on a dominating performance in the pouring rain gapping the field by some 30 seconds, bringing home an impressive victory.

Top Championship Riders To Compete In X Games 12

An all-star international field of riders, including some of the top riders of the AMA Supermoto Championship are slated to compete in this weekend’s supermoto action at X Games 12. The AMA-endorsed event will again be held at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, Calif. Sunday’s main event is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EST and will be broadcast live nationally on ABC.
