San Carlo Honda Gresini Second Day Testing
29 October 2008
The second and last tests day to prepare the 2009 season, in Valencia, has been set back by the adverse weather conditions: during the morning in fact no rider has been testing because of some drops of rain, and the Ricardo Tormo asphalt was humid; the beginning of testing has been therefore postponed to the afternoon. Today each rider was provided with only one rain tyres set, so Alex De Angelis and his team made the decision not to test because of the difficult track conditions: the asphalt was humid and its temperature was getting colder.

Guintoli has always been competitive today concluding with the fifth best lap time in the morning and the eight in the afternoon.

But lap after lap the French rider made it to find a good feeling overtaking Aoki, Melandri and De Angelis. During the morning a heavy shower wetted the circuit, but in the last minutes of the qualifying session the surface of the track was almost completely dry. Guintoli didn’t make it to use the second soft tyre at his disposal passing on the finish line only a few second after the conclusion of the hour at his disposal, while Elias couldn’t manage to find the right balance of the bike due to the quick changes of the track surface. It was a difficult day for the Alice Team riders Toni Elias and Sylvain Guintoli. At the end of the first free practice the duo were respectively in sixteenth and eighteenth position, making it to improve a little in the second session concluded in fifteenth and sixteenth position. Toni Elias doesn’t make it to find the best feeling with the rear tyre, which is part of the same family of the one used in Phillip Island only two weeks ago, while Guintoli will try a different front tyre that should allow him to make a good improvement. In today’s second session a light shower has wetted the Sepang circuit and it could happen the same also in the next two days seen the unpredictable weather conditions of this area.
