Ben Spies on Pole in Virginia

Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Ben Spies recorded his seventh pole position of the year in qualifying for this weekend's AMA Superbike double-header at Virginia International Raceway, Alton as Suzuki GSX-R1000s swept the top four places.

Virginia International Raceway; Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals presented by Dunlop & Rockstar. The 2008 AMA Superbike Championship is headed down the homestretch at Virginia International Raceway on Aug. 15-17 for a pair of the season's final five Superbike-class contests. Virginia International Raceway is located just north of the North Carolina border in Alton, Va., which is 12 miles east of Danville, Va. The popular venue, which boasts a resort-type atmosphere, hosts this week's Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals, presented by Dunlop & Rockstar. This event is a direct descendent of the original Big Kahuna weekends at Road Atlanta that kicked off the now prevalent doubleheader format trend in AMA Superbike racing.

Yates Leads Suzuki Top-Twelve Sweep at Daytona Superstock

Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki's Aaron Yates secured a sound victory in the season-opening round of AMA Superstock at Daytona International Raceway in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Thursday afternoon. M4 EMGO Suzuki's Blake Young picked up his first-ever AMA podium by following Yates home in second place, while Yates' Jordan Suzuki teammate Geoff May completed the podium with a third-place finish.

AMA Overturns Penalties

AMA Racing has overturned the penalties assessed to riders Martin Cardenas, Jake Holden and Aaron Yates at the season-ending AMA Superbike Championship event at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Sept. 16, 2007 after conducting a thorough review of the evidence submitted in appeal.

Spies Wins AMA Superbike Crown

Yoshimura Suzuki's Ben Spies has won the 2007 AMA Superbike Championship from team mate Mat Mladin at Sunday's final round at Laguna Seca in California as Suzuki GSX-R1000s swept the first three places - and dominated the entire series. The Texan rider, defending his first title, beat the six-time champion after sitting behind the Australian for most of the 28-lap race, winning the title by just over two seconds after slowing on the final lap to celebrate to his fans.

Spies Takes Pole From Mladin

Reigning AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies has set pole for tomorrow's final round at Laguna Seca in California ahead of team mate Mat Mladin. The Yoshimura Suzuki rider, who trails the six-time champion by three points in the series with one race remaining, lapped at 1:23.104 compared to Mladin's 1:23.410.

Suzuki Sweeps Alton 2nd Race

Sunday afternoon's AMA Superbike race at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia was all about Suzuki as the manufacturer swept the podium with Yoshimura Suzuki's Mat Mladin and Ben Spies taking first and second place and Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki's Aaron Yates rounding out the podium in third place. This marks the third podium sweep for Suzuki this year. Mladin's and Spies' Yoshimura Suzuki team mate Tommy Hayden carded a strong fifth-place finish.

This podium finish is the defending AMA Superstock Champion’s sixth out of a potential six podium finishes so far this year.

Spies Wins Second Double-Header

Team Yoshimura Suzuki’s Ben Spies raced his GSX-R1000 to a second consecutive AMA Superbike Championship double-header victory at the second Fontana race in California. The 23-year-old Texan took the lead from the start from team mate Mat Mladin, lost it, then moved to the front again to win by 4.4 seconds over the six-time champion. Aaron Yates, who finished third in the Superstock race earlier in the day, finished eighth overall.
