As the British Superbike championship enters its final stages Boston rider Ben Wilson is aiming his sights at a top result in both of the series he is currently contesting, the Henderson R1 Cup and the National Superstock 1000 championship, which have their penultimate rounds at Silverstone in Northamptonshire on Sunday, September 28.
Wilson rode to a brace of second places at Croft in the last round and, after tasting the champagne on the podium is determined to take a win at Silverstone this time.
With this in mind Wilson attended a track day at the Northamptonshire circuit to get some extra track time under his belt to help his campaign for glory.
“The majority of my opponents were also at Silverstone so it’s as well that I decided to go. To be at the top of your game you need to get as much track time as possible prior to a race and it certainly reflects in the results. I was circulating very near to lap record pace this week and am confident I will be competitive on Sunday. I am aiming for a win each time to boost my championship challenge in both series and the extra track time is certainly helping me. Its thanks to my local sponsors that I have been able to attend the track day again this time.”
Wilson is currently running in eighth place in the Superstock series but is only a handful of points away from moving on up to seventh. He currently leads the Autumn Cup and holds second in the overall Henderson R1 Cup.
Wilson came away from Croft with 20 championship points and a four-point lead over Jon Kirkham in the Autumn Cup. He is also placed second in the overall championship, trailing Kirkham by 28 points. With 50 points left on the table it is unlikely, but not impossible for Wilson to win the main championship but he has sealed second place as he has a 51-point advantage over Sam Warren.
Free practice and qualifying take place on Friday and Saturday with the 15-lap Superstock 1000 race due on track at noon and the Henderson R1 Cup to be run over 14 laps set for a 2pm start.
