British rider Rea made great strides in the championship chase, while Pitt lost his dominant position.
Rea had it all under control and was in command for the entire 22 laps after an initial flurry of passing and pushing with his team-mate Pitt.
English speaking riders were in the ascendancy at this race as it was Parkes and Laverty, riding the R6s of the Yamaha World Supersport team, who took the other podium places, not Pitt (after a hard contact with Laverty and a crash, he was unable to restart). Lascorz and Veneman went fourth and fifth. Another good race for Harms and Nannelli, who was the first ‘home’ rider classified.
Two races from the end of the year there are 50 points available and Pitt is 11 points up on Rea, who has come on strong in the second half of the season, with three wins and two other podiums in the last five races. The next race is in France, at Magny Cours, where Pitt will try to take the title in what will be an eagerly anticipated race.
