Fresh from its successful weekend at Knockhill the STP Motorsport team had a hectic week including a test at Cadwell Park with the MV Agusta F4 1000 followed by a winning return to Castle Combe with Victor Cox on his Yamaha R1.
Using the opportunity to get some valuable track time the STP Motorsport MV Agusta team attended the annual MV Agusta Owners track day at Cadwell Park. For most of the day the weather was dry, allowing Chris Burns to put in some fast laps and get some good feedback ahead of this weekend’s race meeting at the Lincolnshire circuit.
Jon Strike - Team Principal: “The MV owners club day at Cadwell Park was good for us, we had some good dry testing sessions and Chris got on so well with the MV Agusta that when the weather turned for the worse in the last session we were confident that we had gained all the information we needed and chose to sit it out.”
Chris Burns - Rider:“The test was a great opportunity to run our number one bike and iron out the ignition problems that we had with it at Knockhill. I am pleased to report that the bike ran very well and the track time will set us up well for this coming weekend. We are still down on power compared to virtually every other bike on the grid. But we have shown before that we can still put the MV Agusta on the top step of the podium and if we have our share of good fortune we can do the same again. The weather will play an important role in our success this weekend and I am probably the only rider who will not be too disappointed if it rains.”
Paul Snell - Crew Chief:“The opportunity to test at Cadwell so close to the race meeting was very welcome. Thanks to the dry conditions in the early part of the day we have been able to develop a good set up for the race weekend. This will allow us to go into free practice on Saturday with the right gearing and as close to race setup as we have been all season.”
Victor Cox who rides a Yamaha R1 in the Metzeler Superstock 1000 category, with support from STP Motorsport, was also at Cadwell Park to gain extra track time before heading south for the Castle Combe Grand National race meeting. At that event Victor entered three races (Powerbike and the two Grand National races) winning two and coming second to his great friend Tommy Bridewell in the second Grand National Race.
While at Cadwell Park, Victor received some unexpected assistance from Leon Camier who highlighted the camaraderie within the sport by indicating to Victor to follow him, which he did for several laps, learning much in the process.
