Following a horrific crash at Brand Hatch yesterday, 23 year old Craig Jones from Peterborough has tragically lost his fight for life after sustaining severe head-injuries, and died early this morning in hospital with his family at his side.
Talented up and coming British racer Jones was fighting really hard for the lead and his first victory at his home round of World Supersport yesterday in front of thousands of fans when he lost control of his Parkalgar Honda through the very fast Clark Curve at the end of lap seven of a restarted race, he was then hit by Ten Kate Honda rider Andrew Pitt.
Championship leader Pitt tried desperately hard to avoid Jones, but was left with nowhere to go and Jones was spun down the track and the race was stopped immediately.
Craig was treated on the track initially and then taken to the Clinica Mobile circuit medical centre, where he was resuscitated four times. He was then flown by Kent Air Ambulance to the Royal London Hospital where his condition was said to be critical. Despite the best medical treatment, Craig unfortunately lost his life early this morning (Monday, 4th August 2008) with his long-term partner Karen and his family by his side.
All of us here at Londonbikers and our community would like to send our heartfelt condolences to Karen Atkins, Craig’s long term girlfriend, his family and his Team Parkalgar Honda at this very difficult time. We are deeply shocked by this horrific news.
Craig Jones RIP, January 16, 1985 – August 4, 2008
