Gary Mason leaves Oulton Park having held onto his position of fourth place in the Daily Star Cup, after a challenging day’s racing.
In changeable weather Gary qualified first out of the Cup riders on the Q8Oils lubricated Quay Garage Racing Honda superbike, starting the race ahead of Cup leader John Laverty on the Buildabase NW200 Ducati and both of the factory supported Rizla Suzukis.
However during Race One, which was run in wet conditions, Gary Mason was one of eleven riders who failed to finish, when his Honda Fireblade was affected by electrical gremlins on Lap 4. Until that point he had been leading John Laverty on the Buildabase NW200 Ducati in the Cup race, and Gary’s retirement assured Laverty of a win, with Martin Jessopp of Riders Racing in second and Tom Tunstall of Hardinge Ice Valley Motorsport completing the podium in third place.
In the second superbike race of the day Gary was back on the pace, crossing the line just behind
John Laverty of NW200 for a second place on the Cup podium. Mason finished with a comfortable lead over Martin Jessopp, who he is chasing for Second Place in the Cup Championship, and ahead of several riders in the Bennett’s British Superbike race, including James Haydon, Guy Martin and Atsushi Wanatabe.
Gary’s podium place in Race Two provided him with sufficient points to retain his place in the Daily Star Cup, close to Martin Jessopp and Tom Tunstall in third and second places respectively. The team will be back in action at Knockhill in Scotland on 8th-10th August.
The lubricants used by Quay Garage Racing are blended in Q8Oils' purpose-built plant in Leeds, just like the Q8Oils range of MOTO SBK oils that are available to road riders.
