The Qualifying day at the eleventh event for the FIM MX3 World Championship in Slovakia was won by the Finnish rider Antti Pyrhonen (Honda).
The weather forecast for the weekend was not very optimistic. Luckily the first day of the event took place in the sunny weather. The Slovakian race track is renovated and shorter than it was a year ago. It is much faster too. The opinion of most of the riders is that the start will be very important, as there is only one line at most parts of the race track.
The Qualifying winner Pyrhonen explained: "I think that tomorrow start will be one of the most important things. The race track is very fast. The new parts are good, some other parts are hard and fast. For tomorrow I wish to make a good, successful start. I would like to finish close to the podium. Today I had a good feeling in the Qualifying practice."
Pyrhonen will not go to the twelfth event in Chile, so the next race for him will be the home event in Finland. Till today his best Qualifying result was the third time at the MX1 GP event.
Pyrhonen said: "It is my best Qualifying result and I am satisfied, specially because the best riders had very close times. Tomorrow the result will be important for me. I would like to have a good feeling before my home event. If tomorrow I will be successful, I think I can catch the podium in Finland. But today's pole position actually does not mean anything for the race.
Belgian rider Patrick Caps (Kawasaki) was second. He had the best time in the Qualifying group B. He did it in his last attempt. For the Czech rider Martin Michek (Honda) it is almost the home event. He had the second best time in the Qualifying group A, just behind Pyrhonen. The best home rider was Josef Kulhavy (Suzuki) with the sixth fastest time. The new Championship leader Sven Breugelmans (KTM) was thirteen and Cristian Beggi (Honda) was eighth.
