Dean Ellison and his crew worked hard to find the optimum setup of his Co-ordit Yamaha R1 superbike - essential for the technically demanding 1.4 mile Leicestershire track which features a number of heavy braking points and slow chicanes (29th June).

Keen to score points at his now local race, Dean safely negotiated the opening laps of race 1 determinedly setting his sights on places ahead. By half distance, the gaps were consistently reducing as Dean visibly reeled in the riders ahead. The tactics paid off two laps from home, as Dean moved through to fifteenth, then fourteenth. The destinctive yellow 118 bike crossed the line, gaining another two well deserved championship points and looking to improve for for race two.

As for the first race, the second race start would prove key to the riders’ success. Not for the first time this season did the weather conspire to influence the results, with a wet track forcing the Organisers to declare a wet race. The Co-ordit team opted for a slick rear/intermediate front tyre combination with the prospect of the conditions improving as the race developed. Dean struggled for grip throughout the early stages of the race and by the time that his pace improved, he could not better an eighteenth placed finish even though managing to hold on to the leaders’ pace in the closing laps.

HENDERSON YAMAHA R1 CUP

Pete Bradshaw lined up to on the grid today for the final race of the Spring Cup, marking the halfway stage of this highly successful series. Having fared well, with a tenth place in the free practice session, Pete’s hopes were high for the qualifying session but the Co-ordit boss was unable to dial the bike in to his satisfaction, finishing the session in fifteenth place.

After a brief interruption for a rain shower during the grid formation, the dry weather held and Pete seized a three place advantage on the first lap. As the race progressed, the Co-ordit bike and rider settled into the race, regardless of pressure from two riders close behind. Intent on holding his position whilst attempting to master the notorious Edwina’s Chicane section of the Mallory Park circuit, Pete hit a neutral. The mistake forced him back two places, which despite his best efforts, he would be unable to regain. Pete finished the race with a fastest lap of 1:02.056, his best of the weekend - disappointed with fourteenth place but pleased to have finished in the points. Richard Cooper will return to the Co-ordit team to complete the remainder of the championship and Autumn Cup, starting with the next round at Oulton Park in July.

Race Result:

1. Kirkham
2. Wilson
3. Warren
4. Kennedy
5. Nutt
14. Pete Bradshaw

Pete Bradshaw – Team Owner:

“What a mixed day for us, results influenced once again by the weather and track conditions. Dean showed his mettle in the first Superbike race but was not confident with the feel of the bike at the start of the second race - and that ruined his chances really. I’m really pleased to have experienced racing our R1 for the last couple of meetings but now we’re really looking forward to Richard (Cooper) joining the team to ride in the Autumn R1 Cup rounds. He’s really shown his talent and we hope to see him progress in the championship.”

Round seven takes place at Oulton Park (18th-20th July)
