Airwaves Ducati star, Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne, arrives at Mallory Park this weekend hoping to score on two fronts. In addition to seeking further race wins to extend his lead at the top of the British Superbike Championship standings, ‘Shakey’ will be keeping one eye on Spain’s Euro 2008 final preparations against Germany.

With no domestic interest, the Spaniards have been Byrne’s team of choice due to the amount of time he spends in the country, and the hospitality he received after Airwaves Ducati’s recent pre season testing session at Calafat.

Byrne said:

“It’s a shame that England are not in the tournament for obvious reasons so the Airwaves Ducati team has adopted Spain. It’s a great country and I have many friends who live there. They’ve played very well and I hope they break their big tournament hoodoo on Sunday.”

Airwaves Ducati team mate Leon Camier, who lies behind Byrne in second place in the championship standings, was today presented with a framed picture to celebrate his first British Superbike victory at Snetterton in the last round by title sponsors Airwaves.

21 year old Camier joined the Airwaves Ducati team this season for his 2nd year in the British Superbike Championship. He has won both the British 125GP and Supersport Championships before stepping up to the Superbike class in 2007, finishing the season in 8th despite a horrific crash at Cadwell Park which ended his season early.

Camier said:

“I am so pleased to have got my first win in BSB for the Airwaves Ducati team - we have all worked so hard for it. I must say thank you to our title sponsor Airwaves for this memento of a fantastic day and I look forward to securing some more great results for the Airwaves Ducati team this weekend at Mallory Park.”

Leon’s superb result at Snetterton followed a string of podium finishes in previous rounds and has seen him catapulted into second position in the British Superbike Championship standings, behind Airwaves Ducati team mate Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne.

On his title bid Leon commented:

“It’s been a long journey to get the first victory but well worth the wait. I just need to continue to be consistent for the rest of the season and go for some more wins – I could definitely get used to it!”
