Rob Mac Racing heads to Mallory Park, Leicestershire, as the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike Championship reaches the season mid-point this weekend (27th-29th June).
Karl Bomber' Harris has faced an uphill struggle to close the gap on the championship leaders in recent meetings. The Thruxton crash proved a massive set-back for the Sheffield based rider after what looked to be a highly promising start to the season. However, Karl is made of sterner stuff and has fully recovered from what could have been horrific injuries.
The tight and demanding 1.41 mile Mallory Park circuit will provide the next test for the 28-year old as he looks to rebuild his title challenge. Despite Mallory not being one of Karl's favoured tracks, the Bomber' knows that two strong performances will elevate the Rob Mac Racing Yamaha rider up inside the top ten offering a strong basis as the Championship moves to Oulton Park in July for the second half of the season.
The action starts with Free Practice on Friday and Saturday morning. The Swan Combi 50 - Roll for Pole qualifying session will decide grid positions at 14.40 on Saturday afternoon. Raceday gets underway with Pit Walk at 10.50, with the first 30-lap race blasting off at 13.15. Karl's second trip to the grid is scheduled for 16.20.
Karl Harris: "Snetterton was a bit of a disappointment, and I've kicked myself for making a schoolboy error that cost me points in the second race. I'm looking forward to racing again but I'm not convinced that Mallory still lends itself to Superbike racing anymore. The bikes are so powerful these days we've outgrown some of the smaller tracks, we don't get out of fourth gear! Having said that, everyone is in the same boat so I will prepare and focus on the job in hand in the same way as I do for any other other round. The whole Rob Mac Racing team has worked really hard to produce a bike that is fast and turns really quickly. It's just up to me now to put in the results."
Rob McElnea, Team Principal: "Karl's year has been plagued at every race since the second round when he was involved in a horrific crash with a flying Suzuki. We have been very close to getting back to the front but have yet to have the luck on our side. Mallory, being such a short lap, is a circuit guarantees fierce battles that we are all hopeful of winning to make that return to the front of the pack."
