One week after a successful French Grand Prix Sébastien Pourcel dominated the sixth and penultimate round of the French Elite Championship in Iffendic. Winner of the first race and then second behind Nicolas Aubin in moto two, the Kawasaki GPKR leader was unbeatable in the super final. He increased his leadership in the series and will arrive with a strong advantage of 39 points at the last round in Lacapelle Marival on August 17.
Fastest rider in the qualifying session Sébastien started his Sunday with a win after a boring race out on is own. He opted for another strategy in race two and let Nico Aubin passed him. They both offered a good show to the crowd until Seb lost his front wheel in a corner and crashed. He lost some seconds and despite a strong comeback only finished second behind his main rival in the standings.
He came with another motivation to the last race and left all his rivals more than one minute behind him. Winner of his third consecutive event in the series, Seb had a good day as Aubin retired after a crash during the super final.
Fifth in qualification and fifth overall Alexandre Rouis had a great day in Britany and lifted himself one ranking in the championship. After finishing fifth, seventh and 11th Alex is now sixth in the standings while Maxime Emery the GPKR supported rider took seventh position overall.
Sébastien Pourcel:
“The first race was boring as I was alone in front. I had a bad rhythm and when I saw Nicolas right behind me at the beginning of the second heat I let him pass and just followed him. It was more exciting but in a corner I lost the front wheel and crashed, losing time. I pushed hard but lost the race. I came back three seconds behind him in the last lap. This race was better for me than the first one but I came with a different mind to the super final. In this race I pushed for 25 minutes and finished one minute ahead of my rivals. The track was not so well prepared, it was dusty on Saturday and there were no ruts, the new supercross section was pretty dangerous also.”
Roger Pourcel:
“The championship is going pretty well for us and after this new victory Sébastien is strongly leading the standings before the final round. Saturday was good for us, Sébastien got another pole position despite the fact that Aubin was fast for his home race and Alex posted the fifth time.
“Seb won the first heat easily but then in the second he did a small mistake when he was following Nicolas. He became more motivated for the super final and dominated everyone. Alex Rouis did one of his best events so far with a fifth position overall despite some crashes while Maxime Emery suffered from his shoulder after his crash in St Jean. He finished seventh with a holeshot in the last race.”
