In the early days of integral (full-face) safety helmets someone suggested that if you had a $10 head it would be OK to buy a $10 helmet. But times change. There are still cheap helmets available but serious riders know that a shell of ECE standard isn’t the only quality component needed to guarantee maximum safety. It is a helmet’s entire construction that matters, aerodynamic outer shell, EPS inner shell, aero-acoustic liner, visor quality, chin strap and fastening system. There are also many refinements a good manufacturer will also build in.

Making full use of its sporting heritage the new BMW Sport helmet incorporates ultra-quality components to ensure the highest levels of protection, comfort and confidence.

The sweeping lines and space-age design of the 1,380 grams glass fibre outer shell (ECE 22-05) echo the Sport Helmet’s aerodynamic performance. Unlike other helmet manufacturers BMW has its own wind tunnel and the meticulous testing of all components ensure that the helmet’s aerodynamic performance is world-class. The ventilation option of airflow all around the head also means that it is one of the best-ventilated helmets on the market.

To guarantee an optimum fit for every head shape, the lightweight shell is available in a choice of two sizes.

Internally, the Sport Helmet’s liner is made from high-quality, moisture-wicking Hydroplus™ which is removable and washable. This high-tech material provides a high degree of comfort and outstanding aero-acoustic qualities that reduce noise levels to an absolute minimum. Safety is further enhanced by a chin spoiler, neck strap and an anti-scratch double-visor (optical class 2) designed to maximise peripheral vision. A practical ratchet lock enables the visor to be opened quickly and easily, even when wearing gloves.

The Sport Helmet’s neck pad and chin spoiler can be fitted separately. Optional converters for cheek/neck pads and chin spoiler (in various sizes) are readily available to ensure a perfect fit. Future use of a Bluetooth communication system is also catered for.

BMW Motorrad Parts and Accessories Manager, Dave Alexander, said “The Sport Helmet is one of the quietest full-face helmets on the market. This combined with the lightweight aerodynamic qualities of the helmet and the sports styling make it the perfect helmet for the ambitious sports rider”.

The Sport Helmet is available in sizes 52/53 to 62/63 and a choice of five colours: white metallic, granite grey matt metallic, night black, sparc, magma and speed.

The recommended price for the helmet is between £245-£280 dependant on colour and pattern.
