The Bwin.com British Grand Prix weekend wasn’t a good one for the DeGraaf Grand Prix Team. Stevie Bonsey didn’t manage to score some points and ended up on the 17th position. Hugo van den Berg had troubles to find the good rhythm and passed the finish line on the 25th position. Danny Webb didn’t have luck the whole weekend and in the race he was taken out by Alexis Masbou and broke his right collarbone. Webb won’t race at the A-Style Dutch TT Assen.
After the wet conditions on the Saturday the race day was dry but there was a lot of wind. Especially the light 125cc class had problems with the strong wind and it was difficult for the riders to stay on track. On the starting grid it was even not allowed to use the umbrellas because of the strong wind.
In the warm-up session it everybody was searching how to handle with this strong wind and several riders were blown from the track but didn’t crash. Also Hugo van den Berg and Danny Webb were blown off the track but Van den Berg survived it. Webb was unluckily and lost the control of his Aprilia and crashed. Stevie Bonsey found a way how to handle the wind and finished on a good 12th position.
Stevie Bonsey had a bad start and dropped back to P24. Bonsey managed to ride a couple of fast laps but also had troubles with the strong wind and couldn’t get his race pace. Bonsey finsht the race just outside the points on a 17th position.
The start of Hugo van den Berg was good and Van den Berg won three positions compare to his starting position. During the race Van den Berg had also problems with the wind and couldn’t ride consistent lap times and made also a couple of mistakes. Hugo van den Berg crossed the finish line on a 25th position.
For Danny Webb it wasn’t a good weekend. After two crashes in on the Saturday and one in the warm-up session Webb was taken out by Alexis Masbou during the race. Webb couldn’t even do one lap in the race and because of this crash he broke his right collarbone. Because of this injury Webb will not ride during the A-Style Dutch TT Assen but will be fit for the next race on the Sachsenring in Germany.
Hugo van den Berg (25th):”The start was good but in the race it didn’t went well. I didn’t know how to handle the strong wind and was missing my rhythm. Because of the wind I made also a couple of mistakes which didn’t help me to get the right race pace. Next week will be my home Grand Prix in Assen. I hope things will be much better and I’m hoping on a very good race.”
Stevie Bonsey (17th): “Today was really a disaster. I felt horrible during the race and I had also a bad start. The wind was really amazing and it was hard to be consistent. Well, next week in Assen I hope to have a very good result.”
Danny Webb (DNF): “This is my home Grand Prix but it was also the worst Grand Prix I had this season. Because of an other rider I broke my collarbone and I have to skip the teams home Grand Prix. I will be able to ride at the Sachsenring in Germany and I hope that I will do a good race there.”
