The Isle of Man TT has produced some of the most memorable motorcycle racing in history, contests which created legends and shaped the modern sport.
In the early 1960s, the Isle of Man’s famous Mountain circuit played host to the likes of Mike Hailwood, Bob McIntyre, Jim Redman, Gary Hocking and many more as they battled for the ultimate prize in motorcycle sport.
Now, the incredible confrontations from both the 1961 and 1962 TT Races can be relived on CD.
Originally released on vinyl as part of the Stanley Schofield Sound Stories collection, these wonderful recordings have been carefully digitally remastered and are presented with the original LP sleeve notes.
Each title features race action and informed commentary courtesy of “Voice of Motorsport” Murray Walker and his TT-winning father Graham. Sadly, 1962 was the final year Graham – for many the voice of the TT – would feature in a highlights programme.
As you sit back and listen to the race action unfold, you are treated to the rare sounds of Honda fours, twin-cylinder Nortons, two-stroke Yamahas and Suzukis, four-cylinder MV Agustas, BMW twins BSA sidecars and many more conjuring up images of a golden era of motorcycle racing.
There’s also a wealth of interviews with the stars, including World Champion Geoff Duke and Beryl Swain, the first woman to compete in a solo TT. There’s also a very rare chance to hear the voice of Rem Fowler, winner of the first TT in 1907, on the 1961 TT CD.
Undoubtedly one of the other highlights of the ’61 review is Mike Hailwood’s stunning Senior TT victory. On the 1962 TT CD, the fight for the Junior race win, with two MV machines battling wheel-to-wheel, simply must be heard, as does the touching tribute to Bob McIntyre.
The wonderful exhaust notes, commentary and interviews are not only a vintage treat, but bring you all the drama and action of a festival of truly thrilling racing.
