The Catalunya Grand Prix started positively for Yuki Takahashi today, when he achieved the eighth best time in the first day of qualifying on the Barcelona circuit. This result could have been better if it was not for a small error during what would have been Yuki’s fastest lap. The JiR Team Scot rider is quite satisfied because from the morning he was in the top part of the rankings and the team worked hard to find a good setting of their technical package. The aim for tomorrow’s qualifying is to improve their position on the grid and start the race with 100% determination.

Gianni Berti – Technical Coordinator, JiR Team Scot

“We are satisfied about the result today because Yuki proved to have a good rhythm that tomorrow we can improve on. We are looking with optimism for the evolution of our weekend considering that this track is not our rider’s favourite circuit. Still, the complete picture shows positive signs and the trend is that we are improving race by race and also when compared to the past seasons. For us this race is important to recover the points lost in Mugello and position us again towards the top of the world championship ranking.”

“Today we did a great job but I wanted to get a better result. Unfortunately when I was in the groove for a fast lap I made an error that made me lose precious tenths of a second but I think that tomorrow we could move forward a few steps more. This morning I dedicated my time to develop the chassis and after that I rode following Barbera as he knows well this circuit and I followed his lines. Today we have identified a good chassis setting that needs only minor adjustment to make things better and also the tyres have felt good so I think we just need to identify the final technical configuration that I will use in the race.”

Yutaka Hirano – Chief Technician, JiR Team Scot

“The team has done a good job today and Yuki was able to go fast from the morning. The calibration of the suspension didn’t require any major changes and also we had to choose the tyre we will use during the race – depending on what the weather does of course. With this in mind, tomorrow we hope to improve our grid position further.”
