After a three-week break, Boston Superstock rider Ben Wilson returns to action with three races to contest at Snetterton on Sunday (June 15th) – two, Metzeler National Superstock events and a round of the Henderson Yamaha R1 Cup.
In his last outing Wilson rode to a superb double runner-up spot in the Henderson Cup, which enjoyed two races at Donington to make up for the cancellation of the Brands Hatch round earlier in the year. Despite encountering problems with the braking system Wilson nursed the Yamaha R1 home in seventh place in the Superstock championship.
Wilson has been testing his own Yamaha R1 at Snetterton in preparation for Sunday’s two 15-lap Superstock championship racers and was pleased with his performance.
“We experimented with the gearing and found a good set up for the weekend,” said Wilson. “Quite a few of the championship contenders were there testing and my lap times were on a par with the front runners so I am confident I can pull off a couple of good results on Sunday in that class which will set me up nicely for the R1 Cup where I will be hoping to go one better than last time and move to the top step of the podium.”
With the continued support of his personal sponsors Wilson is finding the extra track time gained by contesting the Superstock Championship has helped raise his game.
“I was running at somewhat of a disadvantage at the beginning of the season as most of the championship contenders in the R1 Cup were also competing in the Superstock race each time. They had the advantage of extra practice time and consequently were on the pace that bit quicker than me.
“I have to thank my sponsors, as without their support I would not be able to contest the Superstock series. It has certainly made a difference to my race results as the more track experience I get gives me more track knowledge and subsequently shows in my results.”
Wilson has claimed three podium finishes from the last two race meetings and will be looking to replicate this fine performance on Sunday.
Free practice and qualifying take place over Friday and Saturday with the first of two 15-lap Superstock races on track at 11.40am on Sunday. The 14-lap Henderson R1 Cup is scheduled for 5.15pm followed by the second Superstock race at 5.50pm.
