Virgin Media Yamaha rider, BJ Toal continued his Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Championship campaign at Donington Park, Leicestershire yesterday.
Despite starting well down the grid from 18th place on the fifth row, the young Irishman got a reasonable start to salvage a further 5 points towards his Championship total, taking the chequered flag in 13th. The elimination of the two World Supersport wild card entries from Hanspree Honda further elevated BJ to 11th place.
With further testing planned ahead of Round 5 at Snetterton in Norfolk on June 13-15, BJ is confident that he can get back to his previous form of Brands Hatch where he scored his season best of 5th place.
BJ Toal:"My start wasn't too bad until I got into the first corner, I got clipped on the inside which put me behind a little. I had to work to pick the places back up. I was running in 14th for the majority of the race but managed to gain a few more places through some bikes being discounted and Hudson's mechanical problem. I'm keen to be consistently in the top 10 and I know that I'm racing in some very good company. I'll look to improve my qualifying for Snetterton and run in the top 10 again."
Rob McElnea, Team Principal: "BJ put in a really impressive lap time in that race, he's in the points again and making progress off his qualifying position. It's a massive learning year for BJ and we don't expect him to be out there winning races just yet. We are working closely with BJ at the moment and he is responding really well to the coaching that we are giving him."
