MANTOVA (ITALY), 16 May 2008 – In occasion of the second round of the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship taking place this weekend at Mantova, Italy, the FIM’s CFM (Commission for Women in Motorcycling) travelled to the Italian venue to meet the series’ riders and the rest of the World Championship collective, as also the MX1/MX2 Lovemytime Grand Prix of Italy is included in the weekend’s schedule.  The conference saw a healthy attendance today at the Ristorante Italiano.

The commission was started in 2006 and is headed by South African Beaulah Schoeman ; this weekend at Mantova it is represented by the CFM’s Coordinator Brigitte Zufferey. During today’s meeting Zufferey explained the Commission’s aim to increase the presence of women in the parties involved with the decision making of motorcycling, such as National Federations, Motoclubs and Manufacturers. According to the CFM plans, this presence will also spread the business of motorcycling to other healthy areas.

At the meeting the idea of the Women’s Ride for Peace was also announced; the project is under construction and is expected to bring the women riders representatives in Egypt within 2009 for a peaceful initiative. Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo said: “It took us all a long time and a lot of efforts to promote the World Cup to World Championship and we have to extend our gratitude also to Katherine Prumm. She sent us and FIM a very moving letter about the series this winter. In Youthstream now we have also former Champion Stefy Bau, and I can tell you that she is really working her hardest to make the series improve. It was good to start with the Cup and then move to World Championship. I wish you all good luck for this Championship. I am very happy to see that this sport is really for everyone and it is actually open to everyone.”
