Race fans are now set to receive a double helping of fast-paced Henderson Yamaha R1 Cup action at Donington Park over the May Bank Holiday (25-26 May). After the cancellation of the opning round of the season at Brands Hatch at the beginning of April, consultations took place with Rob McElnea and MSVR to decide upon a suitable venue and date to run the re-scheduled round.
Cup competitors will take to the grid for the first of the two 12-lap races in their final Qualifying positions as of 5 April at Brands Hatch. This will give Sean Emmett his opportunity to take up pole position at the head of the grid. Jon Kirkham, Sam Warren and Gary Mason will round out the front row.
The 25minute Qualifying session for the second race takes place on Sunday evening at 6pm. Race 1 is scheduled as the opening race of the day at 10.55, followed directly by Pit Walk. Riders will have a few hours to recouperate before taking to the 25mile GP circuit at 14.40 for their second 12-lapper of the day.
After the opening exhanges at Thruxton Circuit, the series has already been dubbed the Pro-Am of the 21st Century. Providing a level playing field of identical Yamaha YZF-R1 Superbikes on Metzler slicks, the racing produced thus far has been close and tense from the first to the final lap. The double header at Donington will offer riders the opportunity to showcase their talents twice as they battle for championshp points around the internationally famous circuit.
Rob McElnea: "With the nightmare that faced us all at Brands Hatch we have had to make arrangements that work for everyone. The extra round pencilled in for the 11th of May will not include our Hendreson Cup, the workload and cost of getting the Cup on the road in a back-to-back scenario would be stretching all our, and the riders', resources. The exciting mix of rookies pitting their skills against experienced Superbike riders is what the Henderson Cup is all about Two races in one day is a mouthwatering propest not to be missed."
