Bennetts British Superbike riders will be joining Englishmen across the country today (23rd April) to celebrate St George’s Day. The Bennetts British Superbike Championship (BSB) may be the world’s best domestic series, but the leading riders will never forget their home roots, especially today when the patron saint of England is celebrated for his honour and bravery.

Shane Byrne, Airwaves Ducati:

"It’s great to be racing in the British Superbike Championship this year when there is such a variety of English talent lining up on the grid. It is the best championship in the world and I am so grateful to be riding in it. I might live abroad for much of the year but I still consider England my home and I am proud to be challenging for the BSB title."

Karl Harris, Rob Mac Racing Yamaha:

"The British Superbike Championship ranks at such a high level; it's one of  the best domestic championships in the world and it's great to be competing in it. I'm really happy with the progress that the team is making at the moment; to qualify on the front row at the opening round is exactly where we need to be."

Tom Sykes, Rizla Suzuki:

"I’m proud to be English and to be racing in the British Championship in the run-up to St George’s day. BSB is at a very high level and is definitely a championship that produces top riders. Over the last few seasons the title has gone to Japan twice and to Spain; I think it is time for it to come back! My most English trait has got to be my tea drinking habit which perhaps isn’t what people expect from a superbike racer but what can I say - nothing beats a good brew. Happy St George’s Day!"

Cal Crutchlow, HM Plant Honda:

"I'm proud to be both English and British! In the past I've worn St George's flag knee-sliders showing that I'm English - and proud of it!  Being a keen football player and into most sports I'm always behind our sportsmen and women and get a real buzz when we do well! One day I want to be out there, on the world  scene winning for England and Britain. That would be amazing!"

The next round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship takes place at Oulton Park on 3/4/5 May.

Glad to see this is being celebrated! Respect to Karl for getting back on his bike so quickly after his face-plant with the other blue bike there :)

hehe and here's me in Scotland. Needless to say I won't be running down Sauchiehall Street in my St George pants tonight.

Ok, well I probably won't.
