Bruce Wilson from Gipsey Bridge near Boston was denied the chance to shine in the opening round of the Metzeler National Superstock 600cc championship at Brands Hatch as all racing was abandoned on Sunday because of adverse weather conditions.
The Lincolnshire rider will now make his debut in the series on Sunday when the British Superbike championship heads to Thruxton for what will now be the first round of the series.
Wilson has the disadvantage of never having ridden at the Hampshire circuit before but although he will have to spend precious testing time learning his way around the fast and flowing 2.4-mile track he is a quick learner and is confident that come race day he will have mastered the course and be challenging for a strong race position.
“I will be riding my 2007 Suzuki GSXR 600 as the new one is not quite ready,” said Bruce. “But it is a competitive machine and will not let me down. My new 2008 bike should be ready in time for the next round at Oulton Park at the beginning of May.
“I am looking forward to Thruxton, not only because it is a new track for me but because I am eager to get my championship challenge underway. I have been told the course is quite daunting but hopefully I can quickly get to grips with it and record fast enough lap times to secure a good result.”
Wilson who races for Team Motorcycle Racer Magazine which is published by Mortons Media in Horncastle will complete his free practice and qualifying through Friday and Saturday ahead of his 14-lap race which is last race of the day on Sunday scheduled for a 5.50pm start.
