Retained fire fighter Ivan Lintin from Bardney in Lincolnshire is preparing for an assault on the Oliver’s Mount course at Scarborough at the weekend. Linton races primarily on the roads in Ireland but also takes in the New Era Club championship and is to contest all the Oliver’s Mount races on the mainland this year plus the Isle of Man Manx Grand Prix.

The 23-year-old rider who also works as maintenance fitter at Siemens in Lincoln began his racing career in 2006 competing in the New Era Honda Hornet class finishing second in the Superclub series with numerous wins and podium finishes under his belt. He made his debut on the roads in Ireland in 2007 riding in the 201-400cc support class on a ZXR400cc Kawasaki before switching to a 250cc Yamaha later in the season. He also contested the 401-750cc support class on a 750cc Suzuki.

“The support races are mainly for the novice and newcomers to pure road racing and it gives the riders a chance to get used to road racing,” he explained. “My first race was the Tandragee 100 where I finished second and fourth. I went from there to the Bush races where I won the 400cc and 750cc support and from there went from strength to strength finishing the season in second place in the 750cc support class and taking the title in the 400cc support.”

Riding for Sunfish UK/Bardney Racing this year Lintin has already competed at Cadwell in the Superclub series where despite an ankle injury picked up in a qualifying crash, he rode the GSXR 600cc Suzuki to a brace of top ten finishes.

Following that he travelled to Ireland to compete in the Irish Superbike round at Kirkistown where he rode a Suzuki Superbike and also qualified in eighth place in the 250cc class. But his hopes of glory were dashed when the meeting was cancelled due to high winds.

Back on the mainland Lintin entered the New Era Club meeting at Mallory to get some track time in and get up to speed for his assault on the roads. Riding the Sunfish UK/Bardney Racing GSXR 600 he qualified well in ninth place but was knocked from his machine on the opening lap resulting in a broken collarbone.

Following some successful laser treatment the bone is now healed and Lintin will be fit and raring to go at Oliver’s Mount this weekend.

“I will be riding the McKinstry 250cc machine in the 250 race, the Barron Transport GSXR 1000cc Suzuki in the open class and the Sunfish UK/Bardney Racing GSXR600 in the 600 class so it will be a busy weekend for me,” said Lintin.

Qualifying is set for Sunday morning (April 20) with racing due to get underway in the afternoon.
