Knox have invested all they know about protection in the AEGIS to create the most technically advanced back protector available. Named after the mythological protective shield of Zeus, king of the Greek Gods, the new AEGIS back protector is the result of an intensive 12-month R & D programme.

Statistics show that over 25% of injuries to motorcyclists rated ‘maximum’ or ‘critical’ (the ones that cause crippling injuries or death) affect the spine yet there are still a significant proportion of riders unwilling to use a back protector.  So the design team at Knox concentrated on tackling comfort, safety and style to resolve the issues raised by riders as significant factors when choosing a back protector.

By developing solutions to these issues Knox have produced the most technically advanced and user-friendly back protector available today.

Fit

Wearing the incorrect size of back protector can result in an uncomfortable fit, limited protection and restriction in movement, so the AEGIS is offered in 7 sizes engineered specifically for children, women and men.

It has a multi position waist strap system that may be adjusted not only for length but also moved up and down, giving precision fitting. It also ensures that the rider can fix the back protector in the correct position so it does not ride up during use. All sizes have a new integral shoulder strap slider system too that allows the straps to adjust automatically.

Comfort

Back protectors can be heavy, thick and bulky, hot and sweaty and/or feel too restrictive when riding. The AEGIS solves these issues as it is 30% lighter and a more refined shape and thickness than previous models. The weight is balanced evenly over the whole back while a system of flex channels allows it to sculpt around the back, making it more comfortable to wear even under tight riding apparel.

To make it cooler, the AEGIS is completely breathable with a superior air venting system for maximum airflow.

Protection

Side impact protection is achieved with a fully adjustable and removable kidney section in soft PU that gives added performance in this sensitive area. Inclined cell wall technology gives this back protector improved energy absorption and the new AEGIS is independently tested and approved to EN1621-2 Level 2.

This is the highest rating possible under current EU testing regulations, so the wearer can have complete confidence in the protective qualities of the Knox AEGIS.

Image and design

Knox have designed the new AEGIS so that the spine section, which is carbon black as standard, can be customised to create a personalised look for the wearer.

Prices vary according to size.  A regular 8-plate for men retails for £79.99.
