Dainese has today announced that the company has been appointed the ‘Official Safety Partner’ to the Isle of Man TT Races for 2008. As part of the significant deal, the TT’s two key Superbike races will be known as The Isle of Man Dainese Superbike Race and The Isle of Man Dainese Senior TT Race.
The Italian company, which specialises in safety products for active sports enthusiasts was founded in 1972 by the current managing director, Mr Lino Dainese, who will be visiting the Isle of Man over the TT fortnight.
The TT will be the first “Italian Legendary Protection” event, that Dainese is organising together with AGV helmets, purchased in 2007 by the company. The project wants to highlight the long and common tradition the two Italian companies have in the history of motorbike. To mark the occasion AGV will be launching a new Giacomo Agostini replica helmet based on the paint scheme the Italian rider made so famous in a career that saw him win 122 Grand Prix; a feat still to be beaten.
Last month Dainese signed a deal with TT star and British Superbike campaigner, Guy Martin. The 25-year-old Lincolnshire rider, who finished second in last year’s Superbike and Senior races, is thrilled to be involved with Dainese. “This is a huge honour,” he said. “I’ll be doing everything I can to win this year, and I’ll be working hard with Dainese in helping to develop the D-Air system.”
Dainese will work with Guy Martin to help develop the innovative D-Air system that the company is pioneering in MotoGP. The system features an inflatable collar which helps to protect the rider by detonating instantly in the event of an accident. Dainese’s Lerrj Piazza explains: “We have been developing rider safety aids since the company was formed. Dainese was first with the back protector and now we are leading the way with our new air technology device.”
“We will be collecting valuable data from telemetry that Guy Martin will carry in his suit,” he added, “and this will help us develop a road-going safety system.”
Dainese plans a host of activities at the 101st TT festival. At the Villa Marina in Douglas, there will be a free exhibition of race suits from some of their 53 motorcycle racing world champions - leathers that have protected riders such as Barry Sheene, Kenny Roberts, Valentino Rossi and Troy Bayliss. It will be the first time that such a collection of leather suits has been displayed outside Italy.
As part of the promotional effort over the first race weekend, Dainese will be flying in world champions from around the world, with Giacomo Agostini and Carl Fogarty heading the celebrations. Key Dainese dealers will be flown in from all over Europe, with 30 lucky D-Club members winning the trip of a lifetime. The famous TT Travelling Marshalls will also wear Dainese protective kit.
Dainese“Head-to-toe protection for people who engage in dynamic sports”. This is reason for which Dainese was founded in 1972 by its current President, Lino Dainese, and this has been the company mission from inception to the present day, in all the new values that make Dainese a dynamic company in continual movement.
