Following the crash in heat 11 at Belle Vue last night involving Andreas Jonsson and Leigh Lanham the Club is awaiting news from both riders.

Jonsson flew back to his native Sweden this morning and on his arrival is going to have his hands examined. His has nail damage to one hand and has possibly broken a finger. His right wrist is very swollen. Before fling out of the Country he stated: “My right wrist is aching but I can move it so I hope it’s just bruised and not broken. I had an operation on this wrist some time ago, so that may be why it’s aching.”

Lanham received bruising and grazes to both shoulders and knees and felt very sore after the incident but the first signs are that nothing was broken. Hopefully after a good night’s rest he will feel a little better today and able to give the Club some indication as to when he will be fit enough to return to the side.

It is a busy time for the Hammers as they are due to race in their final Craven Shield group match at Peterborough on Thursday evening and then, on the Friday, the Hammers have their opening home Sky Sports Elite League match at their Arena Essex Raceway against the Swindon Robins. In addition Andreas Jonsson is due to partner the Hammers captain, Adam Shields, in the Elite League Best Pairs at King’s Lynn on Saturday.

As soon as further information about these two injured Hammers is known a further Press Release will be issued plus details shown on the Club’s website at www.lakesidehammers.com and via their Speedway Line on 09068 664 686 (calls charged at 60p per minute at all times).

Hammers Change Riding Order For The Visit Of Swindon

The Hammers team manager, Jon Cook, has decided to make a change in the riding order for this Friday’s home  Sky Sports Elite League match against the Swindon Robins.

Joonas Kylmakorpi and Jonas Davidsson will swop places in a move that will see Kylmakorpi now line up at No.4 whilst Davidsson moves to the No.5 position.

Jon Cook explained the reason for this change stating:

“JK (Joonas Kylmakorpi) has still to show his best form following his layoff last season due to his shoulder injury whereas Jonas (Davidsson) has settled into the team well and I’m confident can do a good job for us at the more difficult No.5 position. Leigh (Lanham) has combined well at No.2 with AJ (Andreas Jonsson) and I don’t really want to break up this partnership. I just hope that both will be fit to ride for us following their crash on the difficult Belle Vue circuit last night.”

Hammers Keep The Fans More In Touch

The Hammers promotion are to extend to all their supporters the scheme that was originally open to only their Season Ticket holders whereby e-mails are send providing copies of all the Club’s Press Releases, weather updates, injury news, merchandising news and match cancellations advises etc. To apply supporters should e-mail their name and an e-mail address to: pressoffice@lakesidehammers.com

Jon Cook commented on this initiative by saying:

“I know that our Season Ticket holders have appreciated receiving news direct from the Club so by opening this scheme to everyone it should mean that more are kept up to date with what is going on at the Club. It is also important to provide the latest weather updates so that the fans can make their journeys to our Raceway confident of seeing racing when the weather may be questionable where they live or work.”
