A double victory at Mill and the last round of the ’07 Dutch Open Championship by KRT rider Tanel Leok gave Kawasaki an effective sweep of national motocross titles in Europe this season as the Estonian lifted his first domestic crown on the KX450F-SR.
The factory Kawasaki rider wanted to win the championship for his former team manager Jan de Groot who passed away earlier this season. Leok lead race one from start to finish with only Marvin van Daele able to follow in the opening laps. The 22 year old had a strong start in Moto 2 also, but it was Salaets who headed the pack on the first circulation. Leok followed in second spot and swiftly took control, setting the pace all the way to the chequered flag.
With a full score of 100 points Leok increased his lead to 24 and wrapped up the crown for his Eindhoven-based squad. “It is always nice to win a championship and I’m pleased with how the Dutch season has gone,” he said. “Mill was good; I started well in both heats and actually had the holeshot in the first. The team is based in Holland so this title means as much to them as it does to me.”
The meeting provided Leok with an encouraging end to the season after victories in Britain and Belgium in the last month. Kawasaki were able to celebrate more silverware after also winning the British, French and American series in 2007.
