Chris Vermeulen today unveiled his new ‘old’- look Suzuki GSV-R for this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island. The bike is sporting a retro paint-scheme designed to pay homage to Vermeulen’s mentor, and personal hero Barry Sheene.

The livery was inspired by the Suzuki ‘XR14’ that the double Suzuki World Champion rode in the seventies. Vermeulen was joined by Barry’s son Freddie to uncover the bike in readiness for tomorrow’s first free practice session.

Vermeulen also revealed his retro style race suit and new helmet design, both of which are also based on Sheene’s iconic images from days gone by.

The colours are great, I love it :) I like how some of the riders change their colours ever now and then, it spices things up a little. I also remember seeing these leathers whilst they were being made at Donington Park for the British GP. We were under strict orders whilst in the Dainese truck not to take photos or talk of these before now!

What a fabulous tribute to Barry Sheene, the greatest rider ever. Seeing THAT colour scheme brought back to life and seeing those leathers brought tears this old Barry Sheene fan. Chris you are the man. God bless you.

Looks nice, shame it won't sound and smell like the original :)
