A tough two days of practice and qualifying under a punishing Czech sun saw both Fabien Foret (Gil Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) and Pere Riba (GIL Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R) struggle to make an impact on the final grid positions, despite taking part in a test at Brno last month. The conditions in the test were cooler than were experienced during the race weekend so far, and that contributed to Foret finishing only 11th fastest, with Riba a highly uncharacteristic 26th.
The team plans changes for the morning session of pre-race warm-up, to enable Foret and Riba to find set-up enhancements, and improve the match between machine and tyres that has so far been lacking.
Fabien Foret:“I am losing the front probably twice a lap at full speed, and spinning the rear on the exit of each corner, so what can I do more? The tyres are not working as well for us as they seem to be for other people, and we have not found a solution to that yet. I could maybe go one tenth of a second faster today, but then I would probably just crash.”
Pere Riba: “It was much cooler in the test we did recently and now in the hot weather I have no feeling with the front. When I lose that my hopes of a fast time are completely gone. With so many fast and frequent corner entries to make here, you need confidence in the front. We will try to do something tomorrow in warm-up.”
