Crescent, the leading motorcycle dealership and organisation behind the Rizla Suzuki MotoGP and Superbike squads, has teamed up with Suzuki GB and the ACU to announce a new affordable Clubman race series for 2007 in the UK – the ACU/Suzuki GSX-R Trophy - designed to encourage new talent into road racing.

The entry package costs just £12,040.25 and includes a brand new Suzuki GSX-R600 with all racing accessories, plus Dunlop Tyres for the eight round Championship. On top of that, the competitor’s entry fees are paid for and they receive a Dainese clothing package that includes leathers, boots, gloves and a back protector. The fantastic price is only possible thanks to the support of Crescent, Suzuki GB, Dunlop Tyres, Micron, Performance Friction Products and Dainese.

To emphasise the desire to attract new riders to the sport, the ACU is also adding a free Competitor Training Course and Novice Road Race Licence to the package, free of charge. The new series will introduce the new ACU ‘Go Race’ package to Clubman racing, allowing new and existing club riders the chance to compete on a level playing field, both in terms of machine performance and cost.

The series will run within the 2007 ACU Dunlop Tyres Clubman Challenge Championship - formerly the ACU Star Championship. Other classes running at each Round include Formula 125, GP125, GP250, 1300 Open and Formula 2 Sidecars.

Crescent Director Martyn James said: “Crescent is delighted to be involved in this initiative designed to attract new blood into the sport of road racing. We operate two of the most professional road racing teams in the world and by supplying the bikes for this series we are focussing our attention on helping the grass roots level.

“There’s nothing more we would like to see than a young British talent come through the ACU/Suzuki GSX-R Trophy and challenge for a seat in our Superbike or Grand Prix team. We want to help foster British Champions of the future.”

Jim Parker, Chairman of the ACU Road Race Committee is delighted with the new package. He said: “This new series is the first of a number of initiatives by the ACU to promote motorcycle Road Racing to a new audience of participants.

“I am delighted by the way that our efforts have been received by the wider industry and look forward to swelling the ranks of young motorcycle road racers, thereby moving a step closer to a British Road Race World Champion.”

Participants in the ACU/Suzuki GSX-R Trophy will also benefit from the full support of the ACU Academy, with free diet and fitness seminars at the National Sport Centre at Bisham Abbey, and Sports Psychology seminars at Lilleshall.

To complete the package, the series will include fantastic end of season awards for the best under 23 year old rider and the best over 23 year old rider.

The ACU/Suzuki GSX-R Trophy machines will be on show on the Suzuki and Dunlop stands at the National Motorcycle Show at the NEC from 26th October – 5th November 2006, where members of the public can sign up for the series.
