This was the last race before the summer break, as usual held at Brands Hatch: perhaps the most eagerly anticipated circuits on the calendar, and featuring one of the most difficult track layouts for the riders and teams. Once again the British weather in August was kind to SBK, despite Friday’s worries of rain. On Saturday a warm sun took the riders through the qualifying sessions, with a great result for Pirelli: both SBK and SSP riders made long runs with positive outcomes and most of all they did it using tyres sold on the everyday market. Bayliss set Superpole, while in Supersport the rejuvenated world champion of 2005 and 2006, Charpentier, scored pole position in front of his team-mate Sofuoglu, the real 2007 title pretender.

In front of a big crowd (126,000 spectators over the weekend) Race 1 was thrilling and unpredictable. At the start the fastest was Bayliss, followed by Toseland, able to overtake him with a breathless move, like another put in a few laps later by Haga on the Australian Ducati rider. A “shoulder-to-shoulder” contact sent the fans wild. Unfortunately Troy crashed shortly after, compromising his chances for the title itself.
Corser, in third position was following, while leading Biaggi and Kagayama in a hard fight. Kagayama crashed, Haga made a mistake and re-joined the racetrack 11th - and Toseland went straight on the top of the podium. Behind local lad Toseland, Corser finished 2nd and Biaggi 3rd, the latter particularly impressive on his first visit to Brands Hatch.

Once again the fastest guys at the start were Bayliss and Toseland, followed by the two Yamaha riders Haga and Corser. Four riders and four different tyre choices faced the race, with Bayliss and Toseland using a rear “B” solution while Haga and Corser (and Biaggi) were racing with the Pirelli Diablo Superbike SC0, which was the “A” choice for this event.
At the front end, there was an SC0 for Toseland, an SC1 compound for Bayliss and Biaggi, and a harder solution for the two Yamahas.
Different choices, but all were providing the same level of performance: all set fast laps and set them over full race distance.
Biaggi’s race was affected by a ride through, due to a jump-start, while up front Toseland and Haga put on a really great show. The Japanese had to surrender and Toseland took his first SBK double win, in front of his home fans. He is now getting seriously close to world title number two.
After the Honda came Haga and Corser, with Bayliss only 7th, one place up on Biaggi, who could not recover from his time penalty.

Turkish rider Sofuoglu was the focus of this round. He came here with the sole intent of winning the title, being the first 2007 World Champion crowned. He needed only 5 points over Foret and he got even more than that. Since the beginning of the weekend team-mates Sofuoglu and Charpentier were showing there was no room for the others, dominating all the practices. But racing is different, and Charpentier had to start from the last row, despite the pole position, after swapping bikes.
The race winner was Broc Parkes on a Yamaha, but Sofuoglu in second took the World Title with three races to go. Behind them came Roccoli, now with the same points as Parkes in the overall standing.

Green light - full throttle. From pole Corti made no mistake and was immediately the leader, heading the group ahead of Baiocco and Canepa. Things changed on that lap with Canepa taking the lead and pushing hard, while Aitchison, in 13th position, set the new track record. After a long fight Simeon, on the 12th lap, overtook Corti and started catching Canepa, too far ahead for him although Simeon did a last lap under 1’30.
A great race for the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SC2 which was to prove their outstanding level of performance, thanks to Aitchison’s lap record and their long lasting performance.

In order to include the race postponed from Silverstone because of bad weather conditions, at Brands Hatch the Superstock 600 riders faced two races. Two truly thrilling races. At the start the fastest was Berger, immediately ahead and pushing to take a bigger advantage over the followers. Behind were three Italian riders who offered a great show to the public, changing positions many times. Colucci than took a small gap over Magnoni and Antonelli, and started to catch the leader. He went really close, but couldn’t reduce the final margin, finishing second behind Berger and ahead of Magnoni, who was able to overtake Antonelli once again, for the last time at the last corner.
Great performance for Pirelli’s Diablo Supercorsa SC2, able set the new track record, almost 1,5” faster than the previous best, on the last lap.

Despite the high air temperature and, most of all, tarmac temperature warmer than in Race 1, the name of the race winner didn’t change and the total race time was improved on by 3 seconds. Berger won this second race, while Colucci crashed with 5 laps to go, after setting the fastest lap.
The French rider for Team Trasimeno Yamaha really dominated, and Antonelli could do nothing about his opponent, who raced the whole contest at the front.
On the podium with them was local boy Greg Black, ahead of Magnoni.

1, Berger - Yamaha YZF R6 - Team Trasimeno 16’56.852
