The Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha British Superbike team has turned tartan in honour of Scotland's only leg of the 2007 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill this weekend, 29 June - 1 July. Tommy Hill arrived into Glasgow's George Square in style on his special liveried tartan Yamaha YZF-R1 ahead of the city's inaugural event, Superbikes in the Square. Kitted out in Glasgow's very own tartan print, the Lingfield star revealed the one off, new look design for the very first time with help from the glamorous Virgin Media Pit Police.
The Superbikes in the Square event saw George Square closed off for the evening with the top teams in the paddock, including Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha, putting in captivating demonstration laps for the public.
Tommy Hill and Hudson Kennaugh will be looking to bounce back from the mixed fortunes of Mondello Park two weeks ago, with a brace of strong results in the two 30-lap races around the undulating 1.27-mile circuit.
Tommy Hill:"The Knockhill round is a really exciting race for us and the Superbikes in the Square event was a fantastic way to gear up for the weekend. They're really passionate about their racing up here and Knockhill is one of the highest attended races of the year. What better way to celebrate than to compete with our brand new tartan Superbikes."
British SupersportBilly McConnell and Tom Grant know that as the second half of the season gets underway they must transform excellent qualifying results into race wins. Just a single point separates the two Virgin Media Yamaha Supersport riders as they head north of the border for round seven. However, with just 38 and 37 points on the board respectively, the pair will be looking for strong point scoring finishes this Sunday to keep in touch with the championship leaders.
Rob McElnea, Team Principal: "After a somewhat disappointing weekend at Mondello, the whole team is looking ahead to Knockhill to turn this season around."
Virgin Media Cup
The Virgin Media Cup riders enjoyed a remarkable weekend of action as they lined up alongside the MotoGP stars at Donington Park last weekend, 23 - 24 June. The two support races were designed to showcase the talents of the UK's leading youth development series, and the 26-strong grid did not disappoint. Midge Smart claimed double wins and the overall aggregate victory after two race long battles with James Webb.
Scot David Paton will be looking to make headway into championship leader BJ Toal's lead this weekend. The 18-year old from Loanhead currently lies third in the title chase and aims to win back-to-back races at his local circuit.
Niall Mackenzie, Cup Mentor: "It was great to see the boys rise to the occasion at Donington and not get fazed by the scale of the event. Most importantly, they kept the bikes in one piece ahead of Knockhill! As always, it's going to be impossible to call. David Paton will be strong on home ground. Midge and James Webb are also both on a high and riding well. Don't discount the two dark horses, Dean Hipwell and Dane Hellyer, either. I spent early Wednesday morning live on-air with the Real Radio Breakfast Show crew and the whole of Scotland appears up for this weekend."
The action begins with Free Practice on Friday 29 June. Final Free Practice and Qualifying sessions take over the Saturday schedule, before the eagerly anticipated round seven racing gets underway at 13:00 on Sunday 1 July.
