Shortlisted Nominations For Charity Awards Dinner Announced

At a star-studded Charity Awards Dinner on Saturday 24 March 2007, the winners of the 2006 Historic Motorsports Awards will be announced. These highly prestigious awards are part of Race Retro, the fourth International Historic Motorsport Show, which takes place on 23-25 March 2007 at Stoneleigh Park, near Coventry.

Tickets for the black-tie Historic Motorsport Awards Charity Dinner, to be held at the Chesford Grange Hotel near Stoneleigh, are available for £75 to members of the public, who will mingle with a host of celebrities from the worlds of rallying, racing and motorcycling.

Richard Attwood, Vic Elford and Jack Sears will be there, along with rally stars Pentti Airikkala, Russell Brookes, Andrew Cowan, Paddy Hopkirk, Michele Mouton, Rosemary Smith and Bjorn Waldegard, plus motorcyling heroes such as Mick Grant, Frank Perris, Phil Read, Jim Redman and Charlie Williams.

The Dinner will raise funds for both the Motorsport Foundation (to assist in the provision of specialist training and research) and the Joey Dunlop Foundation (which benefits people with a disability, especially children; see www.joeydunlopfoundation.com). Linda Dunlop, Joey's widow, has confirmed that she will be attending Race Retro and will be a guest at the Awards Dinner.

Championship or Series of the Year:

* Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship; FIA Lurani Trophy Formula Junior Championship; The Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy; Thoroughbred Grand Prix (FIA World Championship); U2TC (Touring Car Series).

Competition Club of the Year:

* AvD Germany; Historic Rally Car Register; Historic Sports Car Club; Kirby Lonsdale Motor Club; Vintage Sports Car Club.

Speed Event of the Year:

* Goodwood Festival of Speed; Klausenrennen Memorial (Hillclimb in Switzerland); Tour Britannia; VSCC Prescott Hillclimb; VSCC Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb.

Road Rally of the Year:

* London to Brighton Veteran Car Run; Modena Cento Ore; Rally of the Tests; The Winter Trial (Eastern Europe); Tour of Cheshire.

Stage Rally of the Year:

* Carrera Panamericana; Trofeo Florio (Historic Rally, Citta di Cefalu); The Scottish Speed Fair Rally by NESCRO (Knockhill); Tour of Flanders (Belgium); Somerset Stages.

Off-Road Event of the Year:

* Johnson Sporting Trial; MAC Clee Hills Trial; MCC Exeter Trial; NTSC Cumbrian Two-Day Trial; VSCC Welsh Trial; Warco Sporting Trial.

Motorcycle Event of the Year:

* Classic Moto Cross des Nations; Coupe Moto Legende (Dijon); Edinburgh Motor Club (Pre-'65 Scottish 2-Day Trial); Goodwood Revival Meeting Motorcycle Race; Lansdowne Series at Donington Park.

Motorsport Company of the Year:

* Avon Tyres (Cooper Tire & Rubber Company); Denis Welch Motorsport; Peter Auto; Peter Denty Racing; Simon Hadfield Racecar Preparation.

Restoration of the Year:

* Delahaye 135S by Frederic Novo (Garage Novo) and Francois Cointreau (Restorauto); Ferrari 250GTO by Kevin O'Rourke (Mototechnique); Lotus Mk3 (LMU3) by Kelvin Jones Motorsport; Turner Mk2 by Richard Line; Lotus 6 Series I by Stephen Garrett.

Navigator/Co-driver of the Year:

Race Retro, the fourth International Historic Motorsport Show, combines live action events
