KTM factory rider Bernd Hiemer rode a 4-5 result on Sunday for overall fifth place in Alcarras, Lleida, Spain in the S1 Supermoto Grand Prix on a brand new circuit that demanded more from road racing skills than offroad.

"It was a very tough day for us," Hiemer said after the race. "It was tremendously hot and it was definitely more a road racing course than for motocross skills. The normal average speed is around 60-70 kmh, but today it was more near 100kmh.

The German rider said he had had reasonable starts in both of the races but was not able to fend off the Aprilias in the straights. "I got away quite well in ninth place in the first race and I was in the running for a better position when I got cut off by a slower rider," he said. "Then I was in third place behind two Aprilias near the end of the race when I got overtaken in the straight." Hiemer faired little better in the second race and said he will now go to the Italian Championships next weekend and concentrate on training ahead of the next event in the calendar. He said he wants to make a particular effort in training his motocross skills, where he feels he can improve.
