Margam park Wednesday 18th July happened to be the location for this year Big Air Jam event as 3500 visitor witness Gary Taylor become crowned master of freestyle moto cross champion on one of the nicest days we have had in July so far. The sun was out and so to were some the worlds best freestyle motocross athletes, battling it out for the title of king of freestyle. Gary Taylor, who is 24 years old form Coventry rode out of his skin to take victory in all three categories, Taylor took command very early on in the night by leading the likes of Kris Brock and Jamie Squibb plus many more top class freestyle mx riders, giving Taylor the advantage of being last out in the final run. This allowed him to watch all the other riders to see what he needed for the final run win.

23 year old Kris Brock from Exeter chose the big air jam for his first competitive ride since breaking his wrist 18 months ago, he rode a little below par by airing out some of the more basic FMX moves in the finals. Brock chased Taylor hard in the whip contest with only 1 point separating Brock and Taylor, but Taylor having a slightly varied range of whip jumps. Danny Veale 28 from vigo in Kent tried very hard to be the person to knock Taylor of the top spot and came very near to doing so in the sick trick contest. Veale looking very confident with the holy grabs and rock solid manoeuvres had Taylor in his sights. But it was Gary the defending champion who came away with gold in all three disciplines.

With only one entry to the nastiest crash competition Chris Birch 24 from Huntingdon in Cambridge, had a slip on the return from a base jump (cliff hanger to no hand land) and lost control and tasted the margam tarmac. That then put him out of the first round qualifiers and with what look like part of his index finger missing and earning him a free bed for the night at the local hospital.

Ryan Pasch last year ammeter competition winnem was the only other rider not to make it to the final run due to mechanical fault. which in turn left him on the side lines for most of the evening. It was Gary Taylor who at times made jumping a 95 kg motorcycle 40 to 50 ft in the and jumping completely of it, and getting back on in time before he landed so easy ,earning himself the title king of freestyle motocross in the uk.
