Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) rode two impressive races at Magny-Cours and topped a great day for him and his team off with the podium they had been searching for. Nieto was fifth in race one, but after a race laden with determination from Nieto and race-long ability from his machine he scored a fabulous third in race two. Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) worked hard for his two top ten finishes at his home track, and in going ninth and eighth scored a final top ten in the overall championship chase. Nieto finished his raceday 12th.

Raceday started late for the Superbike riders, as overnight heavy fog took some time to clear properly, and the meeting itself seemed in some danger of not being completed in its entirety. The fears proved ungrounded, and a full race card was concluded.

Fonsi Nieto:

“Despite the Superpole result of yesterday (ninth) I continued to fight alongside my team and this is the result of our work. I admit it wasn’t easy to maintain the race pace but I tried everything I could to stay among the leaders and I did it, taking home two great results. I felt this was my duty for all the great work the team did during the year. I already feel nostalgic because this was my last round with Kawasaki PSG-1 Corse team. I’m happy to have made this present to all of them.”

Regis Laconi:

“It has been very hard today, especially to manage the front. The asphalt temperature was really different from the qualifying session and this gave me some troubles with the tyre choices. I made a good start but in race one I had to reduce the pace, losing positions. Race two went better; all the choices we took together with the team were the right ones, especially the decision to put a harder tyre on the front. That gave me more confidence with the bike. It has been a battle this Sunday, but I ended up 10th in the standings and that is very important for me and for the team for next year.”
