At the recent Silverstone Round of the Superbike World Championship, ITV1 viewers got the chance to watch World Superbike for the first time. The results for race 2’s viewing figures were impressive. An average of 1.1 million viewers with an audience share of 12%, peaking at 1.2 viewers and 14% share. All rounds of the series are broadcast by Eurosport (all live) and by terrestrial station, Channel 4. ITV only has the rights to broadcast the two British SBK™ Rounds, at Silverstone and Brands Hatch (to be held on Sunday, 6 August).

In Spain, SBK™ obtained even more encouraging results in terms of market share. Terrestrial broadcaster Telecinco has declared that the first Silverstone race, broadcast live, was watched by more than 1.5 million, with an average share of 24%. The peak for this transmission was 2.228 million, a share of 30%. These figures confirm a significant upward trend in Telecinco’s SBK™ audience since the Spanish Network started to broadcast the series in Qatar, round one. The average over the season so far is 1 million viewers 20% share. In the first year of Telecinco’s commitment to SBK™, all races are broadcast live, thanks to the efforts of their own on site TV crew.

In 2005 the SBK Superbike World Championship® achieved the following:

*More than 2-billion worldwide television viewers,
*Live broadcasts on 94 television networks covering 173 countries,
*2.758 broadcast hours with a television media value in excess of US$ 700-million,
*1,000,000 race spectators,
*More than 215 million Internet site views on worldsbk.com
