After dominating the early season in the lightweight Enduro 1 Championship, Juha Salminen’s year was thrown into chaos by injury. However, the legendary Finnish rider battled back to fitness to capture his seventh World championship title at the final round in his usual awe-inspiring style.
Mika Ahola’s consistency in the middleweight Enduro 2 put him in pole position to wrest the World Championship away from fellow Finn Samuli Aro – however a late season surge by Aro, and several impressive displays by Johnny Aubert, ensured the title battle would go down to the final round.
That historic final round would also see ‘big bike’ Enduro 3 title decided, bringing Spaniard Ivan Cervantes his third crown in a row. He overcame determined charge by KTM teammate Marko Tarkkala to take the title, with Sebastien Guillaume producing some inspired riding to keep the leaders in sight.
