Well, the BMF Show is coming up from 20th and 21st of May, at the East of England Showground in Peterborough. You can look forward to bikes racing around the BMF Show’s main arena speedway track, it has always been a popular feature. This year, the spectacular sport of Short Track racing comes to the BMF Show for the very first time! A cross between supermoto and speedway racing, Short Track racing is based on USA Flat Track racing, considered one of America’s all-time great motor sports.
New to the UK in 2005, Silkolene Shorttrack UK last year attracted riders from various racing backgrounds and nationalities, with Italian rider Marco Belli, Harley Davidson, winning the series. Now increased to ten rounds, not only will the 2006 third round be at the BMF Show, but Short Track racing will be back at Peterborough for the penultimate round at the BMF’s Tail End event on 16/17th September.
Using a wide variety of bikes, including a new Thunderbike class with multi cylinder machines up to 1000 cc, each rider has three heat rides with up to twelve riders in a race and a twelve lap grand final. Organiser and racer Pete Boast said: “The BMF Show with its massive crowds is a prestigious and important round for Shorttrack. The venue is fantastic and we welcome the opportunity to bring this close and exciting racing to a new and enthusiastic audience.”
The official Short Track race will feature on the Saturday with demonstration laps on the Sunday supplementing the ever–popular Vintage Speedway racing. Just to add further to the circuit circus, there will also be the ever-popular Moped Enduro with its massive grid of 65 riders always ensuring thrills and spills.
Well established as Europe’s largest outdoor bike show, 2006 will see the return of the other favourites that regularly ensure a crowd of around 90,000 people. Hundreds of trade stalls with bargains hard to believe; club stalls; main arena stunts; ‘The BIS’ Best in Show competition; autojumble; the Two-Wheel Tours section; a Try-It-Out area for newcomers, plus fair rides and side shows for all ages.
The BIS, Best in Show Competition, sponsored by Carole Nash Insurance, carries a top prize of £700 and one year’s free insurance for the winner. With a range of classes from Vintage to Modern, The BIS always has a top entry list. BMF Clubs represent a major part of the BMF’s membership and are able to promote their club by putting on their own static displays and take part in the Cavalcade of Clubs around the main arena.
Two Wheel Tours is an increasingly popular area of the show reflecting the growth in touring both here and abroad. The Two Wheel Tours area houses companies that can advise, organise or take riders on a ready made biking holiday.
BMF ‘Try it Out’ Area. This is the place for those tempted but unsure of biking to have a go and let them see for themselves – without taking to the road. Anyone over the age of 16 can "Try it Out" for free on a scooter of up to 125cc.
For BMF members, there is also the Memba Rally camping weekend running in conjunction with the BMF Show providing BMF members with an exclusive event of their own, complete with bands and entertainment on the Friday and Saturday nights.
