Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Xavier Simeon took a superb runner-up spot in the sixth round of the Superstock 1000 Championship at Misano today. In very hot conditions Xavier showed that he is now a force to be contended with and it will only be a matter of time before he gets his first win.
The race was red-flagged after just a couple of laps, due to oil on the track, and restarted as a nine-lapper. Claudio Corti (Yamaha) got in between Xavier and Matteo Baiocco (Yamaha) and the start and by the time Xavier got past, Baiocco had already pulled out a bit of an advantage. Xavier put his head down and charged after Baiocco, but could not get close enough to the Italian in the remaining laps. Nevertheless, it was Xaviers first podium this season and a sign of what is yet to come. Third place went to Dionisi (Suzuki), with Corti fourth, Canepa (Ducati) fifth and Morais (Ducati) sixth.
XAVIER - 2nd:Im very happy for myself, Francis Batta and the whole team. This result was just what I needed and confirmed that, from this moment on, everybody will have to fight me for the podium. I now have a lot more confidence in the bike; its easy to ride and it is fast. For the next race, I cannot think anything else except that I can go for the win. Maybe I couldve won today, but the red-flag didnt help. Then, in the restart, Corti got in my way at the start and that allowed Baiocco to pull away. I caught up with him, but couldnt mount a real attack in the number of laps left. Anyway, first place in the championship is not that far away and I think I will get closer to it in the next few races.
