Taboo Motorsport’s Michael Hill stormed to a magnificent race winning double at the opening rounds of the North East Motorcycle Club 125cc Road Race Championships at Croft last weekend. Electing to contest the two day (4 race) event instead of attending the official MCRCB test at Snetterton may have been a difficult choice but not for Michael.

‘Last year after merging my team with the experienced set-up of Banks Racing, I achieved my best British Championship season to date with a top ten finish and regular points finishes’ exclaimed Hill. ‘With the association still in place for 07 and Pete Banks preferring to test with his new rider Timmy Hastings at Croft the decision to miss Snetterton was easy’.

After spending most of Friday running in new machine components and experimenting with set-up Michael was optimistic ahead of Saturday’s opening two races.

The weather was far from ideal with he wind picking up, but Michael used his experience to start both races from the front row as the fastest 125cc GP machine.

Race one saw Michael have a 3 second lead at the end of the opening lap which stretched to 12 seconds before Michael backed off to take his first North East Championship win in 8 years by a convincing 5.8 seconds. (He last rode in the series on a production Aprilia taking back to back Championship wins in 1995 and 1996).

Race two was shortened after a lap one stoppage but Michael kept his cool despite the worsening weather to win by slightly smaller margin of 5.5 seconds.

‘Qualifying was good fun as were the two races. Pete kept changing little things here and there and we used every session including the races basically as a test so to come away with two wins and the lead in the championship is fantastic. I can’t wait to get to the opening British Championship event at Brands Hatch over Easter.’ commented a jubilant Hill.

Michael and his TABOO Motorsport team have a totally new look for 2007 (and with Sundays third and fourth round races cancelled due to high winds and heavy snow showers), can be seen in action next at the opening round of the British 125cc Championship at Brands Hatch in 3 weekends time.

‘This year is a lot more professional with regards to set-up, my fitness has improved massively and I am pleased to welcome several new sponsors to the team. It’s going to be a busy year as I have a deal to once again provide audio for the World Superbike Championship and selected Moto GP events and I am hoping to once again give as much time to supporting Riders for Health, but it should be fun’.

TABOO Motorsport are still looking for additional funding to allow them further challenge the front runners in the British Championships. Anyone interested in joining a winning team should contact Michael on: michael@michaelhillracing.com or telephone 07837 937341.
