With just three weeks to go before the start of the new Supermoto season, excitement is building in anticipation of the new format series. KTM UK has announced a comprehensive contingency programme for KTM owners/teams via the Moto GB website. The KTM contingency programme features rewards by way of KTM vouchers, which may be exchanged for and/or used in part payment for, any KTM product (spare parts, clothing, accessories etc). Awards of £250, £100 and £50 will be made to the top three competitors aboard a KTM UK supplied machine in both the NORA Sport National Championship Open Class results and The British Supermoto Championship (5 rounds from each series).
The awards are not open to KTM UK supported riders and the awards will therefore go to well deserving private riders who are the backbone of the UK Supermoto scene. With ten rounds of the series scheduled for 2007, this equates to a prize fund of £4,000 on offer to competitors directly from KTM UK. The voucher scheme will be administered on KTM UK's behalf by leading KTM Supermoto Dealer; Robinson's of Rochdale and competitors will need to register for the contingency scheme in advance. Registration forms will be available from the download area of the Moto GB website shortly.
KTM UK’s generous support package is the latest in a series of support incentives; Aprilia UK, Blur, CTi, Dunlop, Goldspeed, Michelin and Nitro have all added competitor reward packages for 2007 and this level of motorcycle trade support comfortably exceeds anything seen at any previous UK Supermoto series.
This coming weekend sees the official practice weekend/warm up meeting at Blyton Raceway in Lincolnshire where many teams and riders will be debuting their new machines and sponsors for the forthcoming series. Special mention should be given at this point to Shane Stratton, a contender in this year’s series, who has the honour of claiming the longest distance travelled to attend the practice weekend. As an expatriate Australian living in Thailand and current Thai National Supermoto Champion, the likeable ex-body builder will leave Bangkok tomorrow night (Tuesday) bound for England. He will ride his Aprilia SXV 450 machine for the first time at a track day on Friday and then participate in the official practice weekend. The organisers of this year’s series are debating on a special award for commitment! Follow this link to visit the Stratton Motorsports Halsion Aprilia Lincoln website, which features a very interesting blog on the team’s progress so far.
Finally, in a further demonstration of closer working arrangements, the ACU & AMCA have opted to use the jointly owned BSMC logo (see above) for 2007 in recognition of their working agreement for off-road sport. The two tier British & National Championship format will feature individual series logos, based on those above, which will be unveiled at the series opener at Three Sisters Circuit over the Easter weekend.
