TT motorcyclist Jun Maeda has died as a result of injuries sustained during a crash. The 38-year-old Japanese rider, from Kyoto, collided with Seamus Greene from the Republic of Ireland during practice on Monday, May 29, as the pair were exiting the Union Mills section of the Mountain Course.

Maeda, riding for the ASR Evomoto Honda team, was airlifted to the Isle of Man's Noble's hospital and diagnosed as suffering pelvic injuries. Three days later he was transferred to North Manchester Hospital where he has died.

A seasoned TT racer, Maeda finished sixth in last year's Junior Supersport B race as well as in the Senior TT race. He went into this year's festival as the 12th fastest rider in the 99-year history of the event.

A spokesman for the ASR Evomoto Honda team said: "Since he first raced here in 1997, the TT meant everything to Jun.

"His love for the TT and the island itself made him work hard all year, every year, to get back here. Even after his accident he was talking about coming back to the TT next year. Jun used to say the Isle of Man felt like home."

Meanwhile, Greene remains in a critical condition in Liverpool's Walton Hospital after sustaining head injuries.
