Thieves have stolen two motorcycles from under the noses of officers at a West Yorkshire Police station. The Suzuki off-road police bikes were taken from a garage at Heckmondwike police station on Tuesday night.
The force has enjoyed recent success in seizing motorcycles being used unlawfully in the Kirklees area after an appeal from members of the public.
"It is now our turn to ask for help," said Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Barry South.
House inquiriesAn investigation is under way into how the thieves managed to break into the garage and cut the chains.
No other property was stolen during the burglary and nothing else was disturbed in the garage or yard.
Officers are now conducting house-to-house inquiries to find the motorcycles.
"Our primary concern is that they are not used unlawfully, for the wrong reasons or in any way which is dangerous to anyone," Mr South added.
