With such emphasis on rider clothing and safety helmets, it is often easy to overlook the importance of choosing the right motorcycle boots. BMW Motorrad’s 2006 Rider Equipment collection features a wide selection of motorcycle footwear, all designed to appeal to various types of rider.

For year-round touring, commuting and leisure riding, riders should choose the ProTouring boot. This model combines comfort and high protection with practicality and durability. With an open-pore leather shell, GORE-TEX® membrane and Cordura® Flex insert, the boots are completely waterproof, yet highly breathable.

The ProTouring boot features ankle and shin protectors, as well as toe and heel reinforcement. A zipper on the inside leg enables easy access in and out of the boot, and an additional Velcro fastening makes width adjustment quick and effortless. Despite the wide range of safety features, the ProTouring boot also offers excellent walking comfort when the rider is off the bike and exploring on foot.

For riders who prefer to get ‘off the beaten track’, the all-new Santiago boot is ideal. Constructed from top quality cowhide with a thick rubber sole, metal clasp fastenings and metal tips at the toe, this is a boot for the serious on and off-road biker. Large, shin protectors and anatomic ankle protectors, coupled with internal reinforcement of the heel and toe areas, ensure maximum protection.

As with the ProTouring design, the Santiago boots feature a GORE-TEX® membrane, offering wind and waterproofing, as well as breathability. The inserts are crafted from Kevlar® and offer extra comfort in areas such as the instep, as well as gear lever protection. The Santiago boot could well be described as a go-anywhere boot for go-anywhere riders.

The third new boot in the 2006 Rider Equipment collection is designed with one thing in mind – serious off-road riding. The Rallye GS2 boot offers an incredibly high standard of protection with unbeatable comfort and outstanding versatility. The design has been developed in close co-operation with the riding instructors at BMW Enduro Parks in Hechlingen (Germany) and Aras Rural (Spain). As a result, the Rallye GS2 boot is ideally suited to dedicated off-road riders.

In a striking blue and black design, the GS2 is constructed from a mixture of cowhide leather with an anatomically shaped hard plastic shell. It has a double-stitched rubber sole and stainless metal bolted tip, and is designed to offer top-grade protection for the entire foot, including the heel and Achilles tendon, ankle area and the shin. The width of the boot can also be adjusted to accommodate braces and knee protectors.

The Rallye GS2 fastens with four adjustable quick-release metal clasps and features an inner lacing system with a neoprene tongue that deflects mud and water spray. The synthetic lining and removable inner sole allow for quick drying, and the addition of an ankle joint in the boot provides enhanced walking comfort when off the bike. Whether a professional enduro rider or a budding novice, BMW’s Rallye GS2 boots are essential kit for off-road riding.

All three designs are available now at BMW Motorrad dealerships nationwide. The boots are priced at £170 for the ProTouring, £200 for the Santiago and £200 for the Rallye GS2.
