Bell head back in time with their new M1 helmet. From Grand Prix racing to Moto Cross and MotoGP, Bell helmets have played a vital role in protecting sports people for nearly 50 years. For 2006 Bell have introduced a re-styled version of their M1 model helmet in a gloss red and pearl white colour scheme that is resonant of motorcycle racing in the 1970s. The shape of the outer shell, with its deep chin bar and prominent front grille is also designed to evoke the company’s motor sport heritage. However, the package as a whole incorporates the latest technology, with an aerodynamic profile that reduces drag and accentuates internal ventilation, while the rear profile reduces the effects of "buffeting".
The shell is light as a result of combining composite carbon-aramidic fibre materials with the very latest moulding techniques, which make it possible to create shells with complex shapes, capable of distributing impact forces over the entire surface of the helmet. The outer shell is produced in two sizes, for a more accurate fit. The front air vents are flush with the outer shell to guarantee a high continuous airflow rate inside the helmet, even at low speeds. The vents on the chin guard have a discreet inner mechanism, leaving the stylish grille exposed. The rear air extractor creates negative lift on the top of the helmet and speeds up extraction of internal air.
The injection-moulded visor can be removed without any tools, thanks to a simple to operate external mechanism and has an optivision anti-fog treatment inside, as well as being anti-scratch and having a UV filter. The interior is lined with a non-allergic, sweat-resistant fabric, which can be removed completely and washed for perfect hygiene and comfort. The Bell M1 Century is fastened with a double D-ring buckle and is ACU Gold approved. It is available in sizes XS – XL priced at £179.99. The first production Bell helmet was manufactured in the USA back in 1954 in a one car wooden garage located at the rear of the property where Bell Auto Parts stood.
