After a torrentially rainy weekend in the UK last time out, World Superbike moved to Misano, the sunniest venue of the season. Hot temperatures and a new track (now raced in reverse mode) made life difficult for all the riders. Corser captured his 40th Superpole, while in WSS Broc Parkes was the fastest. Two Aussies on pole, but in each category the fight would be hard.

SBK Race 1:

Air Humidity: 38%
Air Temperature: 31°c
Track Condition: Dry
Track Temperature: 48°c

Race One was a cast iron thiller. Soon it was clear that the glory was to be shared between four riders, who were able to lap at an impossible pace for the others. Bayliss, Corser, Haga and Biaggi offered a really great show, heading up Toseland and Kagayama. Laptimes were particularly good and despite the really hot temperature on track the tyres offered impressive performance. After 21 laps Haga set the fastest lap of the race, providing a great show to the 68,000 enthusiasts at Misano, and swapping position many times with Bayliss.

During the 22nd of the 24 scheduled laps Biaggi passed Corser, then trying to pass Haga they collided, allowing Bayliss to win with a comfortable 2.3 second advantage over Corser. Behind the two Australian riders came Kagayama, who had overhauled Toseland.

Race Standings:

1)    Bayliss - Ducati 999 F07 - Ducati Xerox - 38’52.856
2)    Corser - Yamaha YZF R1 - Yamaha Motor Italia WSB - +2.374
3)    Kagayama - Suzuki GSXR1000K7 - Alstare Suzuki - +8.965
4)    Toseland - Honda CBR 1000RR - Hannspree Ten Kate Honda - +11.110
5)    Rolfo - Honda CBR 1000RR - Hannspree Ten Kate Honda - +18.709

SBK Race 2:

Air Humidity: 46%
Air Temperature: 27°c
Track Condition: Dry
Track Temperature: 46°

Race two provided an emotional show for the Italian spectators at the Santamonica Circuit. Like race one Bayliss was right with the two Yamaha Motor Italia riders and Biaggi soon made himself faster than anyone else.

On the 11th lap Bayliss set the fastest lap, but it is very good for the Pirelli DIABLO SUPERBIKE tyres to see that the consistency of the tyres allowed the leaders to maintain almost this pace for the whole race distance. Bayliss and Haga offered again a great spectacle, as well as Biaggi and Toseland, and together with them Corser and Kagayama were in the leading mix.

Almost all the riders decided to race with a hard solution rear, due to the hot temperature of the tarmac - but also due to tyre wear, caused by the bumpy conditions on some parts of the circuit. Bayliss won and earned a great double, celebrating on the podium with Haga and Biaggi, while Toseland had to take an unhappy 6th place. In the overall standing the gap from leader Toseland to Bayliss is now only 21 points, with Haga now 26 from the top. The next races will be really dramatic, especially for the top three or four contenders.

The next appointment is the official test at Vallelunga, which will take place on the 7th and 8th July.

World Supersport:

Air Humidity: 46%
Air Temperature: 27°c
Track Condition: Dry
Track Temperature: 46°

Supersport riders was asked to make a difficult choice when fitting the Pirelli DIABLO SUPERCORSA tyres, in “C” or “B” solutions. Most of them decided to choose the safer “C” – harder – compound, as it would offer an extremely high level of performance, and more life over the full race distance.

Yamaha has found in Anthony West a very good substitute for the injured Curtain, and ‘Westy’ was able to dominate the race once again. The race was stopped due to a red flag when Brugnoni’s Ducati lost oil, but West took the chequered flag twice in the winning position. After West came Parkes and Sofuoglu, the latter still leading the championship on his Honda, and then Roccoli, who won this race last year and scored a well deserved 4th place today. Double world champion Charpentier finished 10th, and in the standings is currently 15th.

Superstock FIM Cup 1000:

Air Humidity: 40%
Air Temperature: 28°c
Track Condition: Dry
Track Temperature: 34°c

The Superstock 1000 race started with a real fight, with Baiocco and Simeon faster than the others and Corti resisting the advances of the main leading group. On the third lap Corti had to surrender to Dionisi and Scassa, who started at the back but had to stop because of the red flag caused by Badovini’s oil leak. A new start - but the same story: Baiocco and Simeon were truly unbeatable and dominated again.

Laptimes were dramatically fast, with Simeon able to set a 1’39.337, which would have qualified him for Superbike races. Treaded Pirelli DIABLO SUPERCORSA tyres offered outstanding performance again, despite the intense heat from the tarmac. Behind the two leaders was Dionisi, followed by Corti, just like the previous heat.

Race Standings:

1)    Baiocco - Yamaha YZF R1 - Umbria Bike - 15’06.692

Superstock European Championship 600:

Air Humidity: 41%
Air Temperature: 31°c
Track Condition: Dry
Track Temperature: 46°c

The first race of the weekend took place on Saturday afternoon. A very high track temperature didn’t stop these intrepid riders, who put on really good show. Berger won the race from Magnoni, at the end of a great battle over many laps. A couple of spectacular crashes - fortunately with no serious consequences for the riders - made headlines, but on the racetrack the competition continued unabated. The riders continued to push until the last lap with their Pirelli DIABLO SUPERCORSA SC2s, despite the high tarmac temperature and the many bumps on the track.

This category is becoming more and more competitive: with his best laptime in the qualifying session Magnoni was close to the WSS boys.

Race Standings:

1)    Berger - Yamaha YZF R6 - Team Trasimeno - 17’04.734
2)    Magnoni - Yamaha YZF R6 - Bevilacqua Corse - +0.596
3)    Bussolotti - Yamaha YZF R6 - MRC Team - +7.742
4)    Gregorini - Yamaha YZF-R6 - MRC Team - +7.903
5)    Antonelli - Honda CBR600RR - Team Italia Megabike AX - +8.293

Championship Standings:

1)    Magnoni - Yamaha YZF R6 - Bevilacqua Corse - 90
2)    Berger - Yamaha YZF R6 - Team Trasimeno - 87
3)    Antonelli - Honda CBR600RR - Team Italia Megabike AX - 72
4)    Ten Napel - Yamaha YZF-R6 - MQP Racing Team - 52
5)    Barrier - Honda CBR600RR - Coutelle Junior Team - 46
