Martin Jessopp and the Riders Racing Ducati team rounded out the season with a solid tenth place finish at the final round of the Maxxis British Supersport Championship at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit. Jessopp was eager to gain a good result at the last race after suffering a disappointing weekend at Donington Park a few weeks ago.
With one second covering the top twenty in qualifying it was essential that Jessopp put in a fast time to ensure of a good starting position for the scheduled 24-lap race. Qualifying in 11th place and only 0.5 off pole position he had to ensure of a strong start. He held his place after the first lap and made his way to 10th by lap two.
The Ducati 749 rider was locked in a tight battle with four other riders for seventh place and with the gap closing down the race was cut short. Aaron Walker crashed heavily on the exit to Paddock Hill and the race was red flagged and declared a final result after 22-laps.
Speaking with him he said “I would have liked to have been higher up at the final race of the year but the track is very small and there are limited amounts of passing places. It’s definitely been a difficult year for me and I didn’t get the results that I would have liked to. I’m hoping to be moving into the Superbike Cup Class for 2008 and really looking forward to the new challenge. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all their help and support through the 2007 season.”
Jessopp finished the 2007 Supersport Championship in 11th position overall.
