Belgian Xavier Simeon won the final round this year’s Suzuki European Cup at Magny-Cours today and with it the title. Simeon took the lead on lap two and from then on in he was never headed on the way to his fourth victory of the year. Second was Frenchman Kenny Foray, with Briton Tom Sykes third. Simeon’s nearest challenger Rene Mahr lasted only three laps, but took runner-up spot in the series, with Phillip Hafeneger third.
Xavier SimeonAfter Valencia, I believed I could take this title and all season I have worked hard to get it. My team have been fantastic and they’ve helped me so much. Riding in the Suzuki Cup has been so much fun, because we race in front of world superbike crowds and that’s a great feeling for all of us. It’s a tremendous race series and a place where young riders like me can show the fans what we can do. On a personal note, this is my second title this year and for me this is a dream come true. I hope I can have success next year, but I’ll miss the Suzuki Cup atmosphere for sure.
